U.S. Soccer profiled Seattle Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan as part of its “Rising” series that focuses on emerging faces of the United States men’s national team. Roldan, 23, has earned three caps with the U.S., the first coming in a start against Martinique in last summer’s Gold Cup.
The emotional written and video pieces explore Roldan’s upbringing from his humble Southern California roots and Guatemalan and Salvadoran heritage, as well as what it means for him to finally put his hand over his heart during the U.S. national anthem.
