The United States and El Salvador have named Seattle Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan and defender Alex Roldan to their preliminary Concacaf Gold Cup rosters, respectively. The final rosters will be culled to 23 prior to the start of the preliminary round.
Cristian has 20 caps for the U.S., with his last coming in January in a 7-0 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago. He has had a standout year so far in MLS, playing in a more advanced midfield role in the absence of Nicolás Lodeiro.
Alex has yet to make an international appearance, but his brilliant play as a wingback this season has given him his first shot to compete on the global stage.
Cristian and Alex were born in California, and each had the option to represent El Salvador and Guatemala because of their parents’ nationalities.
The preliminary round of the Gold Cup begins on July 2 with the competition’s group stage starting on July 10.
