Editor's Note: With 2016 winding to a close, SoundersFC.com is taking a look back at the top 10 plays of the Seattle Sounders' 2016 season. We'll release the full list over the course of the week, with the final play being announced on Dec. 31. Take a look at the Honorable Mentions, No. 10 and 9.
The Sounders will kick off the 2017 season on Saturday, March 4 against the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium.
In the same match that Osvaldo Alonso unloaded a long-range effort to highlight the Sounders’ 4-2 win, Jordan Morris added his own theatrics.
A clearance from the Sounders’ end found Morris 1-on-1 with LA defender Daniel Steres just over the midfield line in Galaxy territory. Morris made a clever touch with his left foot to poke the ball past Steres and turn it into a foot race that Morris was never going to lose.
Morris blew past Steres before firing a shot to the top corner of the far post with the outside of his right foot to give the Sounders a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute. The moment came seemingly out of nowhere, as Morris flashed the big play and home-run ability for which he has been so highly touted.
Morris’ breakaway effort was the first of two goals on the afternoon, good for his first career MLS brace.
