Our 2022 schedule release video showcased the diverse BIPOC and minority-owned small businesses in our community. This month, in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 10, we are excited to highlight Off The Rez - a Native-owned food truck and restaurant in the U-District.
Mark McConnell grew up eating his mom’s cooking at family gatherings and powwows on the Blackfeet Rez in Browning, Montana. In Seattle, he searched for Native cuisine and came up empty. In 2019, Mark and his partner Cecilia Rikard opened Off The Rez Cafe at the Burke Museum, building on the success of Seattle’s first Native food truck, serving delicious traditional Blackfeet fry bread, tacos, and other creations inspired by Mark’s family recipes.
You can support Off The Rez at their permanent location at the Burke Museum or at their food truck, across the city! Check out their website for more information.
