The Seattle Sports Commission last week released the nominees for the 88th Annual Sports Star of the Year Awards. A celebration of sports in Washington, the Seattle Sounders received two nominations at this prestigious event: Jordan Morris (Sports Star of the Year - Men's Sports) and the club's historic Concacaf Champions League title (Sports Story of the Year).
Fans are encouraged to vote for their preferred nominee in each category on https://www.seattlesports.org/sports-star-of-the-year-voting up until 11:59 p.m. PT on January 23.
Morris is nominated Sports Star of the Yeara - Men's Sports alongside Jordan Eberle (Seattle Kraken), Michael Penix Jr. (UW Football), Julio Rodriguez (Seattle Mariners), and Geno Smith (Seattle Seahawks).
The Rave Green's unprecedented run to become the first MLS club to win Concacaf Champions League is among the finalists for Sports Story of the Year, including the Seattle Mariners making the playoffs, OL Reign winning the NWSL Shield, and UW Football's standout season.
Nominees are selected by the Sports Star Committee, compiled of local sports historians, media and other members of the sports industry, and then voted on by the general public. Once an individual has been named a Sports Star, that person becomes a member of an elite group that forever etches their name in Washington’s sports history.
