PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2022 (Seattle): Atencio appeared in 18 matches for the Rave Green, starting eight, including the final six matches of the regular season. Atencio also started seven matches for Tacoma Defiance in 2022.
2021 (Seattle): Atencio started 18 starts of 21 appearances in his first full season with Sounders FC, totaling 1,503 minutes of action. He started in the team’s 2020 MLS season opener, a 4-0 win over Minnesota United (April 16), and helped create the opening goal. He tallied two assists on the year in a 2-2 draw against Vancouver (June 26) and a 2-1 road win over Sporting Kansas City (September 26).Â
2020 (Seattle / Tacoma): Atencio made six appearances in MLS play after signing with the First Team as a Homegrown Player. His debut with the Sounders came as a late-game substitute in the 3-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 19 at the MLS is Back Tournament.Â
2020 (Tacoma): Atencio started and played the full 90 minutes in both of his appearances and totaled two shots.
2019 (Tacoma): Started 23 of his 25 appearances and totaled 2,076 minutes while recording one goal and one assist. He put two of his seven shots on target in his first full season with the USL Championship side.
2018 (S2): Atencio made his S2 debut as a substitute against Timbers 2 on August 19, with the midfielder scoring his first professional goal shortly after entering the match. He then started the team’s next match, a road fixture against Oklahoma City Energy FC.
YOUTH EXPERIENCE
Atencio joined Sounders Academy in 2016 as one of the youngest members of the U-15 squad. The midfielder has racked up over 100 matches played for Seattle’s youth teams. Throughout his four years in the Academy, Atencio has been an important starter on teams that won the Youdan Trophy in England, Generation adidas Cup (2018 and 2019), and the 2017-18 USSDA national championship. He was also the Player of the Tournament as the Sounders U-15s finished third at the Manchester City Cup, beating the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Atencio has represented the United States Youth National Teams at the U-15 and U-17 levels. He started every match for the U.S. U-15s as they won the Torneo Delle Nazioni in Italy, defeating the likes of Russia, Portugal and England. The Bellevue native has been called up to the U-17 national team four times, with appearances against the Netherlands, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Mexico on his resumé.
