Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei has been nominated for Save of the Year for his diving stop against the Colorado Rapids on July 4.
The Rapids’ Shkëlzen Gashi thought he had an empty net and a sure goal, but Frei quickly shuffled to his left and dove to parry the attempt away with one hand. The Sounders held on for a 2-1 road win that helped spark their incredible season turnaround.
