On Wednesday, MLSsoccer.com announced the nominees for the MLS Save of the Year, with Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei earning a nomination for his game-saving stop against Toronto FC in April. Two minutes into second-half stoppage time with Seattle holding onto a 3-2 lead at CenturyLink Field, Toronto FC star Alejandro Pozuelo gathered the ball on the edge of the area, cut inside with a few dribbles, then sent a curling shot through traffic. Frei read the play the entire way, making a world-class save with a dive to his left to preserve the victory for the Rave Green.
Frei won the award last season for his unbelievable stop in Colorado, while Sounders legend Kasey Keller earned the award in consecutive years from 2010-11. Voting for the 2019 edition runs through Tuesday, October 22 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
