SEATTLE, WASH. – Goalkeeper Trey Muse today was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for the final week of the regular season. He tied a league record with 13 saves on Wednesday at New Mexico United in a 1-1 draw, and then made four saves in Tacoma’s 3-1 victory on Saturday over Austin Bold FC, helping the club close the 2019 campaign on a five-game unbeaten streak.
The 20-year-old keeper finished second in the voting for USL Championship Player of the Week behind Charleston Battery midfielder Zeiko Lewis, who recorded one goal and two assists in two victories last week. Lewis received 28 percent of the poll conducted by a national panel of independent media representing every USL Championship market. Muse received 22 percent of the poll to finish second, the highest a Defiance player has finished this season.
Muse made several highlight-reel stops last week, including a series of saves in second-half stoppage time against New Mexico United to preserve a 1-1 draw and road point for Tacoma. The sequence was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter later that evening.
Muse ends the 2019 campaign with 1,935 minutes played across 22 appearances, including 21 starts. He made 97 saves and posted a .669 save percentage and 2.23 goals against average with three clean sheets.
