Joevin Jones set an MLS record for assists by a defender in 2017 with 11, and one of his highlights came in the Seattle Sounders’ home-opener against the New York Red Bulls. With the score tied 1-1 in the 66th minute, Nicolás Lodeiro played a ball through to Jones toward the far end line. Jones tracked it down before artfully nutmegging defender Sal Zizzo.
Jones then laid a simple ball back to Lodeiro, whose cross found Jordan Morris wide open at the far post for the headed goal. Jones’ creativity dismantled the Red Bulls’ back line and made for one of the prettiest team goals the Sounders scored all season.
