Seattle Sounders winger Léo Chú, defender Jackson Ragen, and Head Coach Brian Schmetzer were named to the MLS Team of the Matchday following the team’s stoppage-time, 3-2 road win on Saturday against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
This will be Chú’s third time making the lineup this season after tallying equalizing goals in the 60th and 76th minute over the weekend. The Brazilian forward has had a breakout year for the Rave Green, leading the team in assists with eight, and scoring a total of three goals so far this season.
Additionally, this is Ragen and Schmetzer’s first time on the Team of the Matchday this 2023 season. Ragen had a stellar performance in the backline on Saturday, shutting down the Whitecaps offense while also providing two assists for the night. Schmetzer’s ability to coach the team to their second consecutive win awarded him the spot on the lineup. His tactical decisions and instruction during the 90 minutes, along with the preparation leading up to the match, played a huge role on why the Rave Green left BC Place with a victory.
The Sounders have a quick turnaround as they return to action on July 12 to take on the San Jose Earthquakes (7:30 p.m. PT; MLS Season Pass on Apple TV) at PayPal Park.
