Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei is making a habit of world-class saves.
Frei added to his growing list of acrobatic denials on Wednesday night when he dove to his left and parried away a menacing Fredy Montero free kick headed for the top corner. Frei’s effort preserved the Sounders’ 1-0 lead and helped keep momentum in Seattle’s favor en route to a commanding 3-0 win.
In addition to making waves around Major League Soccer, ESPN noticed too and gave Frei the top spot on its nightly SportsCenter “Top 10 Plays.”
Frei earned his career-best 11th clean sheet on Wednesday, which ties the club record for shutouts in a single season and leads MLS in 2017.
