Seattle Sounders midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro has been voted the Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month for August, the league announced on Thursday.
Lodeiro has had one of the most productive and impactful arrivals of any midseason signing in league history. The Designated Player has two goals and six assists in just six matches while leading the Sounders to a 3-1-2 record. He had two assists in Seattle’s 4-2 loss to Portland last Sunday after stealing a point in Houston midweek with his 94th-minute equalizer.
The Uruguayan is currently on international duty as La Celeste prepares for their World Cup qualifying match against Argentina at 4:30 p.m. PT on Thursday.
Lodeiro beat out Toronto FC’s Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco, D.C. United’s Patrick Mullins and the New York Red Bulls’ Bradley Wright-Phillips for the honor.
