SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC 2 today announced that it has agreed to a contract extension with forward Myron Samuel. Samuel, 23, appeared in just one match for S2 in 2015, scoring two goals and recording one assist before breaking his foot in a 3-2 win over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on August 19. Per USL and club policy, terms of the agreements are not being disclosed.
"We are very pleased Myron has agreed to a contract extension with us," Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson said. "He is a talented player and a natural scorer, and we believe he has the potential to compete for a spot on the First Team as he continues to develop."
Samuel has made 46 career appearances for the St. Vincent National Team. He has 17 goals for the Vincy Heat, including one strike in a 4-4 draw against Guyana in the Second Round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying. Samuel and the SVG squad continues its Group Stage action in 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying, first taking on Trinidad & Tobago on Friday, March 25 at home at Arnos Vale Stadium in St. Vincent before traveling to Hasely Crawford Stadium to take on The Soca Warriors in Trinidad on March 29. The Vincy Heat currently sits last in Group C with zero points through two matches.
Prior to joining S2, the forward spent seven years playing across the Caribbean, beginning his career with System 3 FC in St. Vincent before joining Rendezvous FC in Barbados. In 2010, he scored the opening goal of a 3-1 victory while playing for Avenues United FC to help the club advance out of its group in the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship. The following year, Samuel appeared in one reserve match for Seattle Sounders FC under the direction of then-Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson.
Hendrickson, who is also from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, recruited Samuel to Seattle along with fellow countryman Oalex Anderson, who earned a First Team contract on March 1 after playing for S2 in 2015.
In addition to Samuel, S2's roster features returning midfielders Carlos Patino and Amadou Sanyang, Homegrown Player Jordan Schweitzer, and three 2016 MLS SuperDraft selections: midfielders Zach Mathers and Emir Alihodzic, in addition to defender Michael Nelson.
