Seattle Sounders FC 2 today announced that it is holding an open tryout, in addition to clinics and coaching workshops, in North Carolina from November 17 - 19 with official youth partner Twin City Youth Soccer Association. Twin City, one of Seattle's five official academy affiliates, joined Sounders FC's developmental system in December 2015. S2 also held a tryout in the Tar Heel State in January of 2015.
"We had success at our open tryouts last year and we look forward to eyeing potential new players in the coming months," said Head Scout Kurt Schmid. "We're hopeful that we will be able to integrate young talent into our system."
Players are set to be assessed by members of the Sounders FC, S2 and Sounders FC Academy technical staff, including S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson and S2 Assistant Coach Junior Gonzalez. In addition, other approved assessors are overseeing the tryouts, including goalkeeper coaches. Additional tryouts this offseason are set to take place in Las Vegas and Seattle, but those dates have yet to be finalized.
"We are excited to once again build on our relationship with Twin City next month," said Sounders FC Academy Director Marc Nicholls. "There is a lot of talent and passion for soccer in this region that we intend to use as a foundational aspect of our growing academy pool."
Tryouts at all locations are open to male soccer players ages 16 and older, with a registration cost of $100 for each player. The deadline to register for the North Carolina tryout event is November 16, while the participants who wish to register for either tryout event are also be able to do so in person at the event for $150.
Check-in and registration in North Carolina is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, November 17 and will resume at 3:30 p.m. the following day. A coaching session on Sounders FC's philosophy and curriculum with the Twin City Staff is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday and 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, while clinics are set to take place on from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. ET (U-11/12, U-13/14) on Friday and 10:00 a.m. - noon ET on Saturday (U-7/8, U-9/10).
Twin City Youth Soccer Association consists of more than 3,000 players in the Winston-Salem/Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. The club is part of the North Carolina Soccer Fusion, a partnership with Greensboro United Soccer Association as part of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy to provide the highest level of soccer in the country to players in the Piedmont Triad area. Starting this year, Sounders FC's iconic Rave Green has been added to its uniform color scheme.
