In October, we wrapped up our celebration of Latinx Heritage Month and honored both Indigenous Peoples' Day and our Humanitarians of the Year at our November 9 Fan Appreciation match.
LATINX HERITAGE MONTH
From September 15 through October 15, we celebrated Latinx Heritage Month! Our final activation of month was support of the Seattle Latino Film Festival on October 14.
In alignment with our goals to amplify expert voices and tell authentic stories, Sounders FC was proud to support the Seattle Latino Film Festival’s screening of “Oaxacalifornia: The Return” at Shoreline Community College. In addition to Sounders' support, RAVE Foundation - with special guest, Sounders FC Assistant Coach Freddy Juarez - generously provided a free soccer ball to every youth in attendance!
INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY
In advance of Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 10, we honored the occasion at our final match of the season on October 9. We continued our partnership with Burke Museum, and hosted a pre-match pop-up exhibit to educate fans. Fans were able to interact with Living Traditions: Native American Cultures of the Pacific Northwest, a BurkeMobile exhibit, learning more about vibrant and living cultures of local Native tribes.
Featured food vendors included Off the Rez – Seattle’s first Native food truck, serving traditional Blackfeet fry bread and other delicious fare – and Native Soul Cuisine, a Native-owned restaurant featuring creative items like blue corn tamales, cedar-smoked salmon mac and cheese and Jamaican curry Navajo tacos.
HUMANITARIANS OF THE YEAR
At our final home match, we were thrilled to announce our 2022 Humanitarians of the Year! These awards recognize individuals from the Sounders FC family who make a positive impact in their communities, using soccer as a tool to act in support of inclusion, tolerance and justice. The Humanitarian of the Year recipients included honorees from Sounders FC First Team, Tacoma Defiance, Sounders FC Academy and Washington Youth Soccer. Season Ticket Members were able to vote to select the First Team, Defiance and Academy recipients as part of the Sounders Ballot!
