Sounders FC Players, Fans and Seattle Bank Volunteer at Seattle Tilth for United We Serve
On Thursday, September 22nd Sounders FC players Roger Levesque and Josh Ford joined Seattle Bank employees and approximately 30 Sounders FC fans at Seattle Tilth's United People's farm for September’s United We Serve event in Auburn, Washington.
The United People's Farm is part of Seattle Tilth's Farm Incubator Program to help refugees, immigrants and other low-income families create small farming businesses. The program consists of education, training and one-on-one support, including developing business plans, negotiating lease agreements, and learning about the organic certification process.Â
Seattle Tilth’s United People’s Farm has had a great start this year producing some very tasty spring and summer crops. They needed our help preparing for the fall and winter by moving plant starts out of the greenhouses and onto the fields for planting, and by weeding and removing small rocks out of the pathways between crops. Tools were provided by Seattle Tilth on site, as well as an overview about the farm’s purpose in our community. Our dedicated volunteers walked away a little sweaty but content with the progress they made and took home organically grown vegetables at the end of the day!
Seattle Bank and Seattle Sounders FC partner together for United We Serve, a monthly side-by-side player, employee, and fan volunteer service program. The program provides support for grassroots community based leadership service projects that impact our local community. For more information about the United We Serve program and upcoming volunteer opportunities, visit Soundersfc.com or Seattlebank.com/sounders.html.
