Ten days after the Sounders’ wrapped up the 2017 campaign against Toronto FC in MLS Cup, the Rave Green learned their first MLS opponent of 2018: Los Angeles FC. The expansion side is set to play its inaugural match at CenturyLink Field on March 4 at 2 p.m. PT. The Sounders will then be the away opponent for LAFC’s home opener on April 29 at 6:00 p.m. PT at the new Banc of California Stadium.
The complete regular season slate, including match dates, times, locations and national television schedule, will be announced in January.
The Sounders are 5-4-0 all-time in MLS regular season openers, with eight of the nine matches at CenturyLink Field. Last season’s season-opening loss at Houston marked the first time in club history the Sounders began the season away from home. Next season’s opener marks the eighth meeting between the Sounders and an initial contest with an expansion club. The Rave Green are 3-2-2 all-time in these matches, including a scoreless draw against Atlanta United FC last March.
Notably, LAFC’s roster includes former Sounders goalkeeper Tyler Miller, who was selected in the 2017 MLS Expansion Draft earlier this month.
