Have a month, Nicolas Lodeiro.
The Seattle Sounders’ latest Designated Player signed in July and has been on an incredible run of form since. The Uruguayan international has two goals and six assists in just six matches en route to his nomination for the Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month, announced Monday.
Lodeiro debuted against the LA Galaxy and since then has recorded a point in his last five games while playing the full 90 minutes. He had two assists in the Sounders’ 4-2 loss to the Portland Timbers on Sunday, as well as the late equalizer in Houston midweek. The Sounders are 3-1-2 since he arrived and are back on the brink of the postseason as they head down the stretch of the MLS season.
Uruguay called up Lodeiro for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with the most notable match coming against Argentina at 4:30 p.m. PT on Sept. 1. He has three goals in 48 career caps for La Celeste.
Toronto FC’s Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco, D.C. United’s Patrick Mullins and the New York Red Bulls’ Bradley Wright-Phillips are the other four players up for the honor.
Voting will end at 11:59 p.m. PT on Wednesday evening before the award is announced Thursday morning. You can vote now.
