There were 43 soccer matches in the United States in 2016 that had attendances greater than 40,000. CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Wash., hosted 13 of those 43, according to a list published from World Soccer Talk.
Eleven of the 13 matches were Seattle Sounders MLS games. The remaining two were in Copa America, which saw the United States take on Ecuador and Argentina battle Bolivia.
The Sounders’ most-attended home match in 2016 was their 3-1 win over the rival Portland Timbers on Aug. 21, which drew 53,302 fans, good for 21st. It was also the second-highest-attended match in MLS this season, behind only Orlando City’s 60,147 fans at Camping World Stadium for their home-opener against Real Salt Lake on March 6.
The U.S.’ most-attended match in 2016 was between Real Madrid and Chelsea in the International Champions Cup at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich., which had an attendance of 105,826.
