The Seattle Sounders were named as the consensus No. 2 team in the league by MLSsoccer.com and ESPN.com Power Rankings after Week 30 of regular season play.
Following Saturday’s 2-1 loss at the Houston Dynamo — which saw the Rave Green suffer their first loss in five MLS matches — the Sounders retained their No. 1 spot in the West by five points. Prior to that loss, the Rave Green were on a four consecutive MLS win streak that included victories over two of the top teams in the West in the Colorado Rapids and Sporting Kansas City and a 4-1 victory over rival Vancouver Whitecaps.
From ESPN.com: “The Supporters' Shield is just about out of reach, but with a five-point cushion in the West with five games to play, Seattle is inching closer to a first-round playoff bye.”
