Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer says Jordan Morris (ankle) is “day-to-day”

TUKWILA, Wash. — Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer said injured forward Jordan Morris is “day-to-day,” with his status for Friday’s home tilt against Atlanta United (7 p.m. PT; FS1, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360AM | TICKETS) to be determined.

Morris hurt his ankle in the first half in a 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls on March 19, but stayed in and played 81 minutes, eventually scoring the game-winner. He left immediately following the game for San Jose, Calif., to join the United States national team ahead of a World Cup Qualifying match against Honduras last Friday.

Morris received treatment while with the USMNT and did not train, and he was a late scratch against Los Catrachos. The U.S. released him from camp on Saturday before traveling to Panama City for a Tuesday qualifier against Roman Torres and Panama.

Morris injured his ankle earlier in the year and was also day-to-day, and Schmetzer said that experience has helped his young forward this time around.

“He knows what to feel for and how he feels,” Schmetzer said of Morris. “We’ll just keep trying to progress him every day and then hopefully he’s ready to play on Friday.”
