Sounders Head Coach Brian Schmetzer further cemented his legacy in Seattle folklore in 2016 when he took over in late July and led the club to its first MLS Cup title. The Sounders finished the regular season 8-2-3 and stormed through the playoffs that culminated with a championship in Toronto.
The last two seasons have been much of the same for Schmetzer & Co., as his teams have turned it on down the stretch when it matters the most. In the months of September and October (including the postseason) since 2016, Schmetzer is 17-5-5. The Sounders have a 63 percent winning percentage and average 2.07 PPG, by far the most among any teams in the league.
The Sounders ended the regular season 14-2-1, the best half season in MLS history, including a 7-2-0 record in September and October. Schmetzer and Seattle will begin their quest for a third consecutive Western Conference title on the road on Nov. 4 in the first leg of the conference semifinals before returning home to CenturyLink Field for Leg 2 at 7:30 p.m. PT on Nov. 8 (TICKETS).
