Recent S2 signing Javorn Stevens has been called in to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the upcoming CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Costa Rica. The tournament field is comprised of three groups of four teams and will run from Feb. 17 - March 5. The top two finishers from each of these groups will advance to a second group stage with two pools of three squads. After the second phase, the two squads with the highest points total from each group will automatically qualify for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
Stevens, 18, recently signed with S2 from Antiguan first division side Hoppers FC. The pacey attacker has already been capped three times by his country’s senior team, and has made numerous appearances for the U-20s as well.
The Benna Boys will line up in Group A alongside Canada, Honduras and Mexico. While all three matches are important if Antigua and Barbuda hope to advance out of the group, the opening match against Canada offers a unique preview of S2’s newest signing.
With a third of Canada’s team made up of players on USL rosters, the game will provide a glimpse of the attacking ability Stevens will offer in Rave Green.
