TUKWILA, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 goes on the road for the first time in 2016 as the team heads to Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah to take on Real Monarchs SLC. The match will take place on Tuesday, April 26 (6 p.m. PT) and will be streamed live on SoundersFC.com.
S2 was not a particularly strong road team last season, going 2-9-3 away from Starfire Stadium and head coach Ezra Hendrickson will be preparing his squad for what might potentially be their toughest challenge yet.
“If you look back to last year we didn’t fare so well on the road, we were a much better team at home,” said Hendrickson. “But as long as the guys are playing good football, and we see the improvement, we see the development, we’re not so much concerned about the wins.
Real Monarchs are off to a decent start this season as they sit in seventh in the West with seven points and have just signed University of Washington product James Moberg, with whom S2 fans will be familiar if they attended preseason matches while Moberg was on trial.
After a rocky start going 0-3 at home, S2 now has four points in two games as they look to carry the momentum into Utah. “We’re happy that we got the last two results,” Hendrickson said. “Psychologically, we’re going into this game on a high.”
Hendrickson, however, knows they’ll need to do better still if they are to recover from their early season troubles.
“We felt like we deserved maybe more than a tie, probably should have won that game,” he said. “Finishing is something we have to improve on. I think we had enough chances in that game to put them away, but we came back the following game and were able to win, so going into this next game on a high.”
