The Seattle Sounders have been getting plenty of love from MLSsoccer.com this past week.
It’s only fitting that the Sounders have popped up so frequently, as the league is currently celebrating Audi MLS Cup Playoffs Week. With the Rave Green qualifying for 11 consecutive postseasons – the longest streak in the history of MLS – the Sounders have become synonymous with the playoffs.
On Thursday, Extra Time Radio host Andrew Wiebe named Seattle’s upset of LAFC in the 2019 Western Conference Final as one of his 10 favorite Audi MLS Cup Playoff moments.
Later in the day, Senior Writer Matt Doyle, AKA the Armchair Analyst, penned a column outlining the five most important postseason goals in league history. Two of Seattle’s three goals in their dominant 3-1 victory over LAFC earned honorable mentions, a nod to both the significance and surgical precision of the Raúl RuidÃaz and Nicolás Lodeiro strikes.
In another piece of postseason content, MLSsoccer.com spotlighted Head Coach Brian Schmetzer’s unparalleled exploits in the playoffs. With a record of 12-3-2, Schmetzer boasts the highest winning percentage (76.5-percent) of any coach in league history, a feat that has seen the Seattle native guide the Sounders to three appearances and two victories in MLS Cup since 2016.
Lastly, MLSsoccer.com contributor Greg Seltzer compiled his list of the ten best Audi MLS Cup Playoff performers in league history. Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei and midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro each cracked the list for their individual achievements in Rave Green, while former defender Chad Marshall was also honored for his time in Seattle and Columbus.
