The Seattle Sounders are taking on Columbus Crew SC on Wednesday (4:30 p.m. PT; Q13 FOX, ROOT Sports(Outside Seattle), SoundersFC.com, El Rey 1360AM) at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Here is the Sounders’ starting lineup, presented by Delta.
NOTES:
- Rookie Seyi Adekoya makes his first MLS start with the Sounders first team as the lone striker in head coach Brian Schmetzer’s 4-2-3-1 formation. Forward options Jordan Morris and Clint Dempsey are currently with the United States national team while Will Bruin is still out while recovering from a dislocated elbow. Adekoya, 21, made his first-team debut in Seattle’s 3-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City two weeks ago when he came on a substitute in the 77th minute.
- With three games in eight days, defender Chad Marshall did not travel due to rest. Tony Alfaro starts alongside Gustav Svensson at center back.
- Regular left back Joevin Jones starts at left midfield on Wednesday, as Oniel Fisher slots into Jones’ normal role.
- Jordy Delem starts at right back after Brad Evans started there the previous two matches and is earning rest in the second of this three-matches-in-eight-days stretch. Evans is available off the bench.
- Harry Shipp starts on the bench after picking up a hip flexor strain in training yesterday. Alvaro Fernandez instead earns his fourth start of the year.
