There is a “high probability” Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey starts in the 2017 MLS regular-season opener on Saturday against the Houston Dynamo (5:30 p.m. PT; Q13 FOX, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360AM), and his peers are excited to have him back.
Dempsey missed the final four months of last season while recovering from an irregular heartbeat, and so with his return to competitive game action upcoming, MLS caught up with fellow players around the league and U.S. international teammates to talk about what makes Dempsey so special.
“Clint is one of the top three players in U.S. Soccer history,” said Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Added Philadelphia Union defender Keegan Rosenberry: “He’s one of the guys that a lot of America youth soccer players look up to.”
Dempsey has 34 goals and 22 assists for the Sounders since arriving in 2013 and is the U.S.’ second all-time leading goalscorer.
