Just when it looked like the Seattle Sounders had completed all of their moves in the MLS Secondary Transfer Window, they finalized a deal in the eleventh hour for Montreal Impact midfielder Calum Mallace.

The Sounders traded a 2019 fourth round MLS SuperDraft pick to Montreal in exchange for the 27-year-old Scottish midfielder. Mallace moved to the United States as a child and grew up in Mendota Heights, Minn., a suburb of Minneapolis. He is an American citizen and will not occupy an international slot.

Mallace is in his sixth season with the Impact after being drafted by Montreal in the second round out of Marquette University in 2012. He has 80 career MLS appearances with one goal and six assists. He’s played in seven matches this season.

The Sounders’ technical staff likens Mallace’s game to former Sounder Andy Rose and believes Mallace will be a strategic depth acquisition for the stretch run of the season.
