The Seattle Sounders are heading home on a high note after a decisive 4-0 victory over the LA Galaxy in the team's final preseason friendly on Wednesday night at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
Midfielder Andreas Ivanschitz continued his impressive preseason form with a goal in the 23rd minute and a second tally in the 57th, and Homegrown forward Jordan Morris logged a full 90 minutes and contributed two assists to the rout. Clint Dempsey and Chad Marshall also scored for the Sounders, who will return to Seattle on Thursday with less than a week to go before their Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals match against Club America next week.
The Sounders started a group that will likely closely resemble the team's lineup against Club America, with Dempsey, Morris and Nelson Valdez up top. Captain Brad Evans also got his first preseason start after recovering from hamstring tightness picked up during U.S. national team duty against Iceland in January. Evans picked up an assist to Marshall as the two combined for a two-touch goal off of a driving Ivanschitz free kick in the 26th minute.
Evans held the backline next to Marshall to help earn the Sounders' shutout, flanked by Joevin Jones and Tyrone Mears.
The Sounders will host Club America at CenturyLink Field on Feb. 23 before playing the return leg at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on Aug 2. Seattle will open the MLS regular season at home on March 6 against Sporting Kansas City.
