The Seattle Sounders played to a scoreless draw on the road at the Vancouver Whitecaps last Sunday in the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals of the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs. They will play the return leg at CenturyLink Field on Thursday, Nov. 2 (7:30 p.m. PT; FS1, FOX Deportes, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
The Sounders can advance to the Western Conference Championship for the second consecutive year if:
- the Sounders defeat the Whitecaps in regulation by any margin
— OR —
- the Sounders and Whitecaps play to a scoreless draw
- AND the Sounders win after extra time or in penalty kicks
If the match is scoreless at the end of regulation, it will go to two full 15-minute extra time periods. If it is still tied, the match will go to penalty kicks to determine a winner.
Vancouver would advance if it defeats Seattle by any margin in regulation, after extra time or in penalty kicks. If the Whitecaps and Sounders draw with any combination of goals, then Vancouver would advance by virtue of the away goals tiebreaker.
