S2 Preview: Seattle Sounders FC 2 to take on Portland Timbers 2 for second time in three weeks

Seattle Sounders FC 2 came up short by a narrow margin in their last trip to Providence Park just three weeks ago. Portland Timbers 2 took all three points in a 1-0 result in which S2 produced many chances, but couldn’t capitalize.

But coming off of a big victory against cascadia rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in which they scored a season high three goals, S2 are confident in getting a result when they take on their rivals from the Rose City on Tuesday (4:30 p.m PT; Live Stream on SoundersFC.com).

“Seeing as we just played them not to long ago I think it’s still fresh in our minds,” S2 head coach Hendrickson said about T2. “But we were able to get three goals on Thursday and knock off the first place team, so I think going in to this game, the guys are very confident.”

S2 will be without midfielder Zach Mathers and forward Andy Craven, who stayed behind in Seattle for the first team’s U.S. Open Cup match on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. PT, Live Stream on SoundersFC.com) against the Kitsap Pumas. Both will be available, but it is unclear if either player will be in the lineup on Wednesday. Craven has scored three goals over the past two games and will look to continue it if he gets the call against Pumas.

Meanwhile, forward Myron Samuel and midfielder Jordy Delem have returned to Seattle from Caribbean Cup qualifiers with their home countries of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Martinique, respectively. Both players recorded a goal in their qualifiers and will be available for Tuesday’s match against Timbers 2.

“We’re confident with the players that we’ve brought and we think we have a good chance to get some points on the road against our rival.”
