EDINBURG, TX—The six-game unbeaten streak has ended, as S2 lost 6-0 to USL Western Conference opponents Rio Grande Valley FC Toros on the road.
A brace from RGV FC striker Emilio Garcia just before the interval handed RGV FC a 2-0 lead going into the break. His first goal of the night came courtesy of a stunning free-kick from 25-yards out. Both Garcia and Rob Lovejoy lined up for the dead ball, and after Lovejoy made a quick dummy run, Garcia struck a dipping effort over the wall and into the top right corner.
Minutes later, a clever bit of skill from Yair Arboleda Quinones allowed him to shake free of Myron Samuel, before finding Garcia at the top of the box. His first touch enabled him to turn into space, and his second was a lethal finish beyond an outstretched Charlie Lyon into the bottom corner.
Ruben Luna added the third for RGV FC just minutes into the second half on an assist from Lovejoy. Eric Bird then made it four in the 81st minute after a nice bit of build-up play in the final third.
A pair of goals in second-half stoppage time from Kyle Murphy and Dzenan Catic rounded out the scoring. Bird turned provider with driven service that Murphy redirected on goal for the fifth goal, while Catic scored with a powerful drive into the bottom corner from the top of the box for the sixth and final strike of the night.
S2 will look to bounce back next week on the road against San Antonio FC on Saturday, August 20 (5:30 p.m. PT, live stream on SoundersFC.com)
