This week, the first eMLS Cup is set to take place at the PAX East event in Boston from April 5-8. Nineteen gamers – each representing a different MLS club – will play for a chance to compete in the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup.
Seattle’s gamer is Jason Flick, who goes by Flickiify. The University of Washington student has played FIFA for over 10 years.
“It’s a dream come true, to be honest,” Flickiify said. “I have always loved playing FIFA and loved watching the Sounders. In the past they were separate things, but now they are combined. I can’t wait to see what happens.”
Nine players will compete in the Eastern Conference, while 10 players will be in the Western Conference. The regular season will be played on Thursday and Friday, with the knockout round on Saturday. The conference championships and final are set for Sunday. Each contest will be held at PAX East – a huge gaming festival that is held in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center this year.
“I think it’s great for MLS to be in the esports scene with FIFA,” Flickiify said. “I think it can help us connect to another audience. More and more you see people learn their love through FIFA, and if we can help transition that to the Sounders, as well, that would be great.”
