RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Sounders FC and Qwest Field were awarded the “Event Recycling Award” for 2008 by the Washington State Recycling Association. The Recycler of the Year Awards took place in Yakima on Tuesday, May 5.
As a host for over 300 events and more than 1.5 million visitors annually, Qwest Field and Qwest Field Event Center recycled 35% of more than 1,000 tons of waste material generated; including paper products, plastics, co-mingled metals, wood and compost.
“We take great pride in our recycling efforts which are truly a team effort driven by staff, fans and event attendees,” said Seahawks Vice President of Facility Operations & Services Susan Darrington. “We look forward to building on our success in 2008.”
Other Qwest Field partners include Fibres International, Cedar Grove Composing and Waste Management. Nine organizations and individuals were recognized for their performance and leadership in recycling over the past year, and three individuals were inducted into WSRA’s Recycling Hall of Fame.
