The Seattle Sounders defeated the Colorado Rapids 3-0 on Sunday to secure the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and a Knockout Round bye in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs. Since 2011, the No. 2 seed has reached the MLS Cup Final six times, the most of any seed.
Seattle joins the first-place Portland Timbers, who earned the top seed in the West by virtue of their 2-1 victory over the previously top-ranked Vancouver Whitecaps. Here is how the West’s playoff picture looks:
As the No. 2 seed, the Sounders will face the higher-seeded team that comes out of the Knockout Round. Seattle will take on either the Whitecaps if they defeat the San Jose Earthquakes, or the winner of the Houston Dynamo-Sporting Kansas City match if San Jose wins.
The Sounders will visit their conference semifinal opponent in the first leg next weekend before hosting the return leg on Thursday, Nov. 2.
