Obafemi Martins is now just two steps away from winning the AT&T MLS Goal of the Year for the second straight year, but he’s got some tough competition to top the rest of this year’s final four.
Martins’ spectacular spinning goal against the Colorado Rapids on April 18 (above) is paired up against a magnificent do-it-yourself goal from Sporting Kansas City’s Krisztian Nemeth on Oct. 4 in the first half of the semifinals, while Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco and Real Salt Lake’s Olmes Garcia make up the other side of the bracket.
VOTE NOW FOR THE AT&T MLS GOAL OF THE YEAR
Martins is trying to become the first player to win the MLS Goal of the Year in consecutive seasons since Dwayne De Rosario in 2004-05. He won the award last year for a gorgeous chip to the back post against the San Jose Earthquakes, joining Patrick Ianni (2012) as the second Sounders player to win the annual award.
Voting for the semifinal round ends on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 9:55 p.m. PT.
