Co-host of MLSSoccer.com’s This Week in MLS and former Major League Soccer player Calen Carr has some heavy praise for Seattle Sounders midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro.
Carr believes the Uruguayan Designated Player should win MLS Newcomer of the Year, despite having only played in 10 matches this season after arriving from Boca Juniors in late July. Lodeiro has led the Sounders to an improbable 7-1-3 record (he was suspended for the Sounders’ last match because of a yellow-card suspension) and a near-lock for the 2016 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, all while scoring three goals and recording eight assists.
“That’s a lot of production in a short span,” Carr said. “Now it looks like Seattle is going to be in the playoffs and that’s really thanks to him.”
Lodeiro will be available for Wednesday’s match against the Houston Dynamo (7:30 p.m. PT; JOEtv, KIRO Radio 97.3FM, El Rey 1360AM) after returning from the Uruguayan national team earlier than expected. He scored on a diving header before being booked and will miss La Celeste’s next match against Colombia because of a yellow-card suspension in CONMEBOL 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying.
