Ahead of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, an annual event celebrated globally that showcases support for environmental protection, Earth Day Northwest 2020 has launched the #NEXT5 & #VoicesCarry2020 campaign.
It could be the next five weeks, months, years or decades. Earth Day Northwest 2020 wants to hear your voice and what tangible actions you’d like to see taken to promote the preservation and long-term health of our environment.
For Sounders FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei, his #NEXT5 challenges the global community to move away from using fossil fuels, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and instead invest heavily in robust infrastructure for renewable energy.
“In the next five years, I would like for countries to move away from reliance on fossil fuels, both in production and use, instead moving to create more jobs and technologies in solar energy and other renewable energy sectors,” said Frei. “I believe renewable energy is the future and if leaders enthusiastically tackle the challenge, we will make a world that is better, stronger and more equitable. It might take some time to get there, but I would like to see the world start down that path in a more serious way in the next five years.”
