Ahead of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, an annual event celebrated globally that showcases support for environmental protection, Earth Day Northwest 2020 has launched the #NEXT5 & #VoicesCarry2020 campaign.
It could be the next five weeks, months, years or decades. Earth Day Northwest 2020 wants to hear your voice and what tangible actions you’d like to see taken to promote the preservation and long-term health of our environment.
For Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer, his #NEXT5 challenges the global community to come together for big structural changes to protect the future of our shared home.
“Our current global health crisis has allowed many of us the opportunity to reflect on our human family, and the interconnectedness amongst us all," said Schmetzer. "As I think about the next five years, hopefully there are some lessons that we can take forward from our current shared challenges. We only have one home, and our planet needs all of us to work together, much as we are currently in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. It will take that kind of a global approach and more to combat our sustainability issues, how we think about renewable energies and our over-reliance on fossil fuels. The next five years give us a real opportunity to begin making these changes, and it starts with all of us on an individual level.”
