Take a bow, Stefan Frei.
After being named MLS Cup MVP in 2016, the Seattle Sounders goalkeeper logged arguably his best season in his nine-year career. Frei recorded a career-high 13 clean sheets en route to a nomination for Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year and has two saves up for Save of the Year.
Frei’s first save came on a one-handed stop on Toronto FC’s Jozy Altidore on May 6 before he made another lunging one-handed stop on a free kick from the Vancouver Whitecaps’ Fredy Montero on Sept. 27. The save on Montero, which was thoroughly dissected on SoundersFC.com, went on to be named No. 1 on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays."
