Major League Soccer has nominated Seattle Sounders defender Chad Marshall for September’s Eithad Airways MLS Player of the Month.
The Sounders are on one of their best stretches in their MLS history, having gone 7-1-3 since interim head coach Brian Schmetzer took over, and Marshall anchoring the back four has been a big reason why.
Along with Roman Torres at center back, Marshall & Co. only allowed three goals in four September matches, including two clean sheets. He also headed in the game-winner against the Chicago Fire on Sept. 28, his fourth goal of the season, which ties a career high. The three-time MLS Defender of the Year has started 27 games this year and logged nearly 2,400 minutes.
Sounders midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro took home the honor for the month of August.
The other four players up for the award are the LA Galaxy’s Giovani dos Santos, Columbus Crew SC’s Ola Kamara, New York City FC’s David Villa and the New York Red Bulls’ Bradley Wright-Phillips. You can vote here.
