Major League Soccer on Monday named Seattle Sounders center back Kim Kee-hee to the Week 26 Team of the Week for his standout performance in the Sounders 1-0 win over the rival Portland Timbers on Sunday evening. MLS also named midfielder Osvaldo Alonso to the Team of the Week bench.
Kim not only put in a stout defensive performance offering up five clearances, but the 29-year-old South Korea international also forced a Timbers own goal in the 76th minute when he slid a dangerous cross into the Timbers' six-yard box resulting in the match's only goal. This marks the third time in six weeks that Kim has been named to the MLS Team of the Week.
Kim and the Sounders return to MLS action this Saturday, September 1 against Sporting Kansas City (1 p.m. PT; JOEtv, UniMás, Univision Deportes, Twitter, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS) as they look to set a new MLS record for consecutive wins in the post-shootout era.
