HERRIMAN, UTAH – Sounders FC 2 (3-12-2, 11 points) on Saturday night dropped a 2-0 decision at league-leading Real Monarchs SLC (13-4-2, 41 points). Felix Chenkam made his first start for S2 since May 12 after being called up to the club’s MLS side, but the team was without captain Ray Saari due to injury. The victory keeps Real Monarchs unbeaten at home this season, and they remain three points ahead of FC Cincinnati at the top of the league standings.
Charlie Adams scored the first goal of the match in the 27th minute off a rebound to put the home club ahead, 1-0. In the 70th minute, Sebastian Velasquez received the ball inside the area and finished past S2 goalkeeper Calle Brown to make it a 2-0 advantage.
Seattle saw appearances from four First Team players in Tony Alfaro, Henry Wingo, Brown and Chenkam, and three Academy players in Khai Brisco, Cam Martin and Gio Miglietti.
S2 returns to action on Friday, July 20 at Phoenix Rising FC (8:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+). It will be the first of two matches played between the teams this season.
