On Monday morning, Joevin Jones posted a heartfelt message on Instagram with a series of photos, thanking the Sounders organization for the past two seasons. Jones, 26, is set to join Germany's SV Darmstadt 98 in 2018.
Ahead of MLS Cup 2017, Head Coach Brian Schmetzer addressed the pending departure of the club's talented left back, heaping praise on the 26-year-old.
"Joevin has been great. He’s been influential, [he’s] great to have in the locker room, [he’s] a good team guy, his talent is undeniable so we’re going to miss him.”
Since joining Seattle in a trade with the Chicago Fire in January 2016, Jones was one of the club's top players the past two campaigns. He went on to play 53 league matches for the Rave Green, recording three goals and 14 assists. As a left back with a penchant to dominate the flank in the attack, Jones led all listed defenders in MLS with 11 assists in 2017. He also started in all 11 of the Sounders' postseason matches since 2016, setting a club record with five postseason assists.
