Seattle Sounders defender Joevin Jones has been lighting up opposing defenses all season. In this edition of Quest Diagnostics Advanced Stats, we take a closer look at Jones’ blistering assist pace.
After recording three assists in the 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs, Jones has picked up where he left off and then some this season. Despite brief stints as a left winger in head coach Brian Schmetzer’s 4-2-3-1 formation, Jones has spent much of his time as a left fullback and has still produced a team-leading nine assists. He is just one shy of the Major League Soccer lead.
Jones is on pace to break the Sounders’ single-season assist record, 13, currently held by Mauro Rosales (twice) and Obafemi Martins.
