Add another accolade to Cristian Roldan’s outstanding 2017.
Goal.com named the 22-year-old Seattle Sounders defensive midfielder to its 2017 Major League Soccer Best XI on Monday after he led the league in duels won and tackles. Roldan also contributed six goals and three assists and logged nearly 3,000 minutes across 33 starts.
The Pico Rivera, Calif., native and University of Washington product earned his first United States national team call-up this past summer and proved he can still command central midfield even without captain Osvaldo Alonso beside him. MLS also named him No. 13 on its annual “24 Under 24” list, which highlights the league’s best players under 24 years old.
Goal.com also named Sounders defender Joevin Jones and midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro as honorable mentions.
