Sounders FC forward Darwin Jones and defender Tony Alfaro have been named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 24 after helping S2 earn two 2-1 victories against Cascadia rivals at Starfire Stadium. On Monday, August 29, Alfaro registered the game-winning assist in the 88th minute against Timbers 2, then Jones recorded the latest goal in team history with a winner four minutes into second-half stoppage time against Whitecaps FC 2 on Friday, September 2.
Alfaro, the 27th overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, has made five MLS appearances in reserve roles in his rookie campaign, totaling just over 200 minutes. The Cal State-Dominguez Hills product also has 17 appearances with S2 in the 2016 campaign. Jones, a second-year Homegrown Player from Des Moines, Washington, paces S2 with six goals on the season.
Additionally, forward Irvin Parra earned a reserve spot on the Team of the Week. The 23-year-old from Inglewood, California signed with S2 on August 4 and has made an immediate impact, appearing in each of the past four matches. Parra recorded a goal in the 2-1 win versus Whitecaps FC on September 2.
Next up, S2 looks to extend its three-match unbeaten streak on the road against Oklahoma Energy FC on Sunday, September 11 (4:00 p.m. PT / Live-streamed on SoundersFC.com).
