Sounders FC 2 (3-4-0, 9 points) topped Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (2-2-3, 7 points) on Saturday evening at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs. Cameroonian forward Felix Chenkam recorded a second-half brace and now leads the club with three goals in the 2017 USL campaign. Second-year forward Irvin Parra added a first-half penalty kick for his first goal of the season, as S2 overcame frigid temperatures for its second road win of the season. Next Friday, the Rave Green are set to host Portland Timbers 2 in the second meeting of the campaign between the two sides at Starfire Stadium (7:30 p.m PT / Live-Streamed on SoundersFC.com).
The match's first major moment came in the 18th minute when Switchbacks FC defender Pascal Eboussi was shown a red card for violent conduct on a two-footed challenge. Three minutes later, S2 took the 1-0 lead on a converted penalty-kick attempt from Parra after a Switchbacks FC handball in the area. The host side equalized in the 40th minute on a goal by Ricardo Perez, making the score level entering halftime.
In the second half, Chenkam became the first S2 player to record a brace this season. He began the scoring in the 51st minute on an assist by David Olsen, then doubled his tally just three minutes later on a helper from Shandon Hopeau. The host side earned one back in the 70th minute, but S2 held on for the 3-2 victory. S2 returns to Starfire Stadium for a Cascadia clash on Friday against Portland Timbers 2. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.
