Major League Soccer on Monday named Seattle Sounders winger Cristian Roldan to the Week 16 Team of the Week following his excellent performance in the club's 3-0 win over Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday. Additionally, fellow Rave Green winger Jordan Morris has earned a spot on the TOTW bench.
Roldan, who posted a goal and an assist against SKC, was vital to Seattle's comprehensive victory. The 27-year-old winger supplied the assist on opening goal in the 8th minute, curling an inch-perfect cross that picked out the head of Will Bruin for the eventual game winner. Roldan then notched a goal of his own in the 76th minute as he tapped in a pass from Morris to make it 3-0. A two-way force on the flanks, he also recorded two successful dribbles, two key passes, two tackles, two blocks and an interception.
Following Saturday's win over SKC, Roldan now has four goals and nine assists across all competitions for the Sounders in 2022.
Morris continued his strong run of form with a goal and an assist of his own against Sporting. The Mercer Island native doubled Seattle's lead in the 71st minute when he rose highest to head Nouhou's cross past goalkeeper Tim Melia. He then put the game out of reach when he raced in behind the opposing back line before dishing the ball to Roldan for the third and final goal.
After missing nearly the entire 2021 season with an ACL injury, Morris noted recently that he still doesn't feel like he's back to his best. That should be a frightening reality for every team in MLS, as the U.S. international has already racked up eight goals and four assists from just 18 starts across all competitions this season.
The Sounders return to action on Wednesday as they host CF Montréal (7:08 p.m. PT; FOX 13+, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360AM | TICKETS) at Lumen Field.
The Montréal fixture also marks the first-ever Pups at the Pitch match for the club. You can find more information HERE.
